MacMillan Won - Amazon Increased Their Books PriceA few days ago, Amazon pullet out all of MacMillan's books in their dispute after a dispute between the two occurred due to problems in pricing rates. It seems like MacMillan wants more in the prices Amazon designated to their e-book version of their books.~~ The dispute concerned e-books and hardcovers of MacMillan and they asked for higher rates than the previous $9.99 set by Amazon to MacMillan e-books. In a response to the issue, Amazon temporarily pulled out every single MacMillan book to their online shelf until a solution is given. Apparently, MacMillan won in the dispute and left Amazon nothing but to agree with the publisher's requests. "We have expressed our strong disagreement and the seriousness of our disagreement by temporarily ceasing the sale of all Macmillan titles," Amazon said in a statement. "We want you to know that ultimately, however, we will have to capitulate and accept Macmillan's terms because Macmillan has a monopoly over their own titles, and we will want to offer them to you even at prices we believe are needlessly high for e-books."the online company added. It expected that MacMillan books will eventually be place back to the website and will have rates ranging from $12.99 and $14.99 for electronic versions of bestsellers and most hardcover releases, a few dollars increase from the usual $9.99 pricing rates of Amazon. But ultimately, Amazon has the last say on the issue. Business-wise, they have to comply with the book publisher's demands, but they also have to retain their reputation as a low-cost book selling firm. And so, Amazon said "Amazon customers will...decide for themselves whether they believe it's reasonable to pay $14.99 for a bestselling e-book." |
