Christmas have always been part of workplace life, unless you are working in a non-Christian office. Pot lucks, games, and lots of Christmas music. These are just some of the things that you will see (and hear) during a company Christmas party. I always have a lot of fun attending these events because they give a pleasurable break off the stresses of work and life.
Another favorite part of any Christmas party programme is the gift exchange. What is usually done is that the attendees of the party are required to bring in a gift whose amount is initially specified. These gifts are then numbered and given to the person who picks that particular number. Alternatively, the attendees are already asked to draw a name prior to the party so he/she could think well about what he/she will give to his/her recipient.
A common question asked during these events is the kind of gift to give. If the names are already pre-drawn, the answer lies in what you think about the person. How do you define his/her personality? Have he/she expressed any particular want in mind? We can't really give any general tips because that is very subjective.
If you're just going to pick numbers, then you will have to find a gift that is generic and gender-unbiased. What's the use of giving some Barbie dolls (who gives Barbie dolls during company parties, anyway?) if it is a male who will get it? Well, perhaps some males would like to have it for their daughters, I suppose...
The choices are actually endless. Some that I could think of right now are DVD sets, gift certificates, lotto ticket, some mugs, a planner (oh yes, I personally would like to receive one of these gifts), or perhaps a lot of movie tickets. Food items are fairly popular during these gift exchanges, but you could always do with something inedible and more longer-lasting.
How about you? Do you have any gift exchange ideas in your head? Do share.
