| When You Are Feeling Sleepy in the OfficeLast summer, I tried on taking a 2-month stint as a web developer for a company in the city proper. Everyday during that 2-month period, I had to be at the office at around 10 in the morning and leave at 7 in the evening, which translates to 8 hours of work. I was around an hour and a half away from the office, which means I have to set off for work at 8:30 in the morning and arrive hom at around 8:30 in the evening. I also spend three to four hours doing my freelance work, which means I only have around 8 hours to sleep, eat, take a bath, and such.~~ Clearly, there isn't enough time for me to sleep those days, which proved to be a problem because in the afternoon, when I am in the office, I couldn't help but feel very sleepy. It wasn't something that I really wanted to do so what I do is to prepare myself a big mug of coffee and drink it at once. That way I was able to prevent my eyes from actually dropping. Until this day I find afternoons to be a bit difficult because this is the time I want to sleep, though this is also the only time for me to do specific tasks. I know that I'm not the only person with this condition, and I know that people want to get through this. Reading through some other tips in the Web, I learned that, well, having around 5 to 6 hours of sleep everyday still isn't enough. If I am staring at my computer screen for around 12 hours every single day, the tendency is to have eye fatigue, a major cause of sleepiness. If I could even have at least one hour of sleep after work and before I do my freelance stuff, then I would feel more energized. Furthermore, and more curiously, it is also not recommended to drink coffee while on the job. Yes, it will give you the boost that you need in the afternoon, but you will also tend to have that crash when the effect wears off. Eating only a bit after every, say, three hours will also do you good, as eating a lot will make one really sleepy. Know what? I'm actually feeling very sleepy right now. Maybe I should try to do some sit-ups first just to keep me awake. |
