swivel chair parts Interview

By Interviewer at 06/30/07 10:53
Name of your website?

swivel chair part

Your name?

Don Weisman

Your Location (city, etc)

Houston Texas 77008

When did you start your website and why?

Online since 1996. Providing difficult to locate office swivel chair parts and more with no minimum merchandise quantity.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Swivel Chair Parts.com is a division of Abacus Furniture Repair. Abacus has been serving the Houston Texas market with fine quality furniture repair and refinishing work since 1985.

In 1996, Abacus ventured into the Internet offering difficult to find fine quality office swivel chair parts and more with a "no minimum merchandise quantity purchase" policy.

Today, swivel-chair-parts.com is the leading world wide provider of chair parts to the consumer and small industry. In addition, we are the largest stocking supplier of bar stool swivels, offering more in stock styles than anyone else.

Our recently expanded warehousing facility insures that every order regardless of quantity will be shipped the day of order or not later than the following day. Anyone of course could be sold out on any one particular item. Our average in-stock position is 99.99% or better

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

Keeping adequate inventory for both minimum and large quantity purchasing. Adding frequently needed but unusual items. Understanding nomenclature of part needed over phone.

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

Shipping goods.

What was your biggest mistake?

Not starting the website in 1985.

Who maintains your website and why?

We maintain our own website in house, as sales volume does not support an order fullfillment company nor a third party shipper.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

My business is website dependant.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

Bigger and better ecommerce and B2B.

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Good. Get's right to the point.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

Definately helped tremendously for my type business.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Proper keywords and Web stats. Office-talk just like here. Example: Thousands of people are not aware that replacement mechanisms and bases for Plycraft (Herman Miller knock off Lounge chairs) are available. Without a website availability might still be unknown.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

Ours is a Nitche website. So any form of advertising always is helpful to someone. People are always surprised that there is a website for what they are looking for. Least successful I guess is Newspaper ads.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

Create and enforce proper laws to prevent Spam.

Besides Office Chair Parts, what other items does your website carry?

We have the worlds largest selection of replacement Bar Stool swivels for Home Owners. We also have a good selection of replacement Couch Legs, Chair Gliders (no parts), Upholstered Rocking chair component parts and much more--all accessible from our Home Page. One part is not too few to order.

What is your website address?

My first step to orgainzation; a new wire lan rack

By Heidi at 06/27/07 13:38
I finally did something smart. I am the laziest, most disorganized person in most of the world. Maybe not the laziest, but certainly among the top on the messy chart.

I bought a really cool wire rack for my computers so they don't have to sit all in a jumble of wires on long desks. I can actually reach them, the keyboards don't get all tangled up and i can see all the monitors from one position.

I used plastic tie wraps to keep the wires together for each machine. Don't make the mistake of tying them ALL together in one big roll because if you have to remove one set of cables, you have to untangle the whole thing. Just use the ties and secure each computer's nest of cables to the posts or shelves.

I didn't know it could get this good. I would say it is nostalgic, reminding me of my more organized youth...but..well, I wasn't very tidy then either. I am one of those people who leaves the empty toilet paper spool on the roller in the bathroom and sits the new roll on the tank lid!

Manual typewriters still have a niche in the world and are increasingly hard to find

By Heidi at 06/26/07 10:58
You would think with all of today's technology, the manual typewriter would have gone by the wayside long ago. Well, maybe this is true for the most part, but there are plenty of people actually looking for them.

Many groups who have missions or other types of work in third world countries especially have the need for a typewriter that requires no power source.

Only two companies that I have found still makes them. Royal makes the MS25 typewriter that is lightweight at 13 pounds. It is not all that expensive at under a hundred bucks. In comparison, the only other models they have are the Linea models which are all being discontinued since they are sold so infrequently. The Lineas are heavy and huge and would not be much fun to lug around the jungles. They would be useful for those who want to use them at home and don't have to carry them around.

The MS25 has been recently upgraded to include two international keys on the keyboard. It is hard to get ahold of one, since everyone seems to be buying them all at the same time. Best thing I guess, I to place an order for one and let them come into the warehouses, since they sell pretty much as quickly as they come in. They are definitely worth the wait if you have the specific need for a manual typewriter.
