What is hidden in your office that is making you sick?

By Kelly Jelly at 07/26/07 11:32

Does your office have an open floor plan with partitions? A dirty office is a place that will make you sick. Dust, mold, spiderwebs all could contribute to respiratory problems and make your productivity levels go down. How many of you feel like putting out a ton of creativity when you feel like crap?

Here is a cleaning checklist for you to use to make sure you remain healthy in your office. Use this to make sure you are giving all of the problem areas a good cleaning that you may not normally think of.

  • Clean the air ducts and anything that is blowing air around in your office. This includes fans! Have you ever noticed how gross the blades look after a while?
  • Have the carpets steam cleaned. We all track allergens, dirt and other unmentionable things into our offices on our shoes. It just sits there down in the carpet fibers and every time someone walks over it, visualize a little dust cloud following in their footsteps. Dog poop and EVERYTHING!
  • Clean the blinds. Wash with soap and water, don't just run a dust cloth over them!
  • Clean your computer keyboard, monitor and all the fan vents in the CPU. There are plenty of good computer vacuums to accomplish this task. Computers act like little vacuums and accumulate LOADS of gross dust and dirt around the vent holes for the fans.
  • Vacuum the wall partitions. Fabric covered partitions most especially will accumulate dust and dirt within the fibers and just hold them trapped there. This means you will be literally surrounded with grime that you can't really see. You can use your handy computer vacuum for this task also if you get a good size one
  • Wipe down your plant leaves with mild soap and water. This will also repel bugs since they hate the taste of the soap. If you don't HAVE any plants, get some! They filter the air and are beautiful and soothing.
