Preparing for the Office Christmas Party

12/01/09 05:43

For most people, Christmas is considered to be the most wonderful time of the year. It is during this time when we see a lot of people becoming happy with the occassion, especially the kids, who know that there will be a lot of feasts and merrymaking during this festive occassion. Your office should not be left behind with the celebrations.

It is pretty common for offices to have their very own Christmas parties at least around a week before the actual day. Through special celebrations like a Christmas party, the camaraderie among the colleagues are improved, which will ideally lead to higher productivity and good working relationships.

If you're going to organize a Christmas party, the first thing to do is to make a consultation with the rest of your colleagues and the management. Some companies would allow the party to take hold in an assembly hall in their respective offices, though more companies would like their parties held in some off-site convention hall, because these can hold more people. This is a collaborative effort, so you have to make sure that everyone is involved in decision-making.

As for decorating, one popular decoration to add in is the Christmas tree, which should be added in the middle of the convention hall or some corner where it can be shown prominently. The size should be proportional to the size of the room. As an added activity, you can also ask your colleagues to help decorate the tree. Christmas tree decoration has always been a favorite bonding activity.

Food is also one area that you have to think about. You have to choose a set menu that is agreed upon by the entire office. Actually, what's better is to have a pot luck instead, where each employee will bring his/her own Christmas sepcialty. Assign someone who can head this and the planning of the games to allow easy management.

Don't fret. This is a Christmas party, not a major event that may mean the success or failure of your company. Relax, take control, and everything will be fine in your party. Happy planning!
