Brian's great post about manual typewriters reminded me that my laywer's office is decorated with lotsof different antique typewriters. There is a subliminal aspect to it, I believe. Many people believe that lawyers just have their secretaries print out pre-made forms on the word process and they are paying megabucks for a few seconds of printer time. The manual typewriters all around the office leave one with the clear impression that all documents are manually prepared exclusively for the client and aren't just copies of something else. Always make sure you have an old but functional manual typewriter on your next. You can show off to all your luddite customers when they visit. You know the ones that don't like to use the internet for placing orders or customer service! You can tell them to have a seat while you type of their order and start pounding away at the typewriter and using vigious amounts of white out! Have you ever seen the clear bowls with a plant on the top and a pretty fish underneath swimming around? Those are beta fish and this combination makes a very relaxing decoration for your office. The fish give you a peaceful feeling and there is not much maintenance involved. The fish come in a variety of colors and so do the plants. And of course the water that supports the fish also supports the plant. They will keep the roots clean and algae free. Tags: beta fish • office decor • 1 Comments. - Permalink |

A great way to decorate your office and impressive your clients and coworkers is to take a couple of your best vacation photos and have them printed in a large format on canvas.Even a 3 mega pixel photo will blow up to a spectactular piece of art when printed on canvas and then framed. You should be able to get a decent size print on canvas for 25 bucks or so. You can find plenty of places online to do your prints or maybe there is one just down the street from your home or office. Once you have it framed it will look more like art than your photo. A couple of these around your office can really spice it up. Since the art is from your photos it will be unique and personal. I would look not to the maintaince of the plant, but the effectiveness of it producing oxygen.Dr. Maoshing Ni suggests: "Most effective are indoor palms, English ivy, ficuses, peace lilies, and chrysanthemums." But adds, "certainly most leafy indoor plants are fine." You can read more from Dr. Maoshing Ni in his articles: Plants and Oxygen: An Explanation Tags: live plants • office decor • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

What is your favorite style of office decoration?Plain and simple? Just a clocks (for you clock watchers)... so you are never a minute late leaving work? Messy because you are very creative and the mess is just a side effect... piles of piles of papers on your desk, on the floor, everywhere (except inside the filing cabinets)? A family man (or women) just pictures of your family and your kids "artwork"? A corporate zealot... just expensive blow ups of the magazine covers where your company has been featured and other expensive but nonfunctional items? Please leave a comment with your style of office decoration. Tags: organization • office decor • messy office • 0 Comments. - Permalink |

Plants are a great way to liven up your office. However, you need to be sure and use live plants. They add oxygen and bring you back to earth.Silk plants are just a fancy way to collect dust and let people know you are lazy and don't really care about the environment or your office! Freshen up your office with some nice plants and flowers. I remember in Costa Rica where all kinds of lovely plants are available for very cheap, many locals seemed obessed with plastic plants and flowers. Why do you want to live in a plastic box when nature is right there for you? Use live plants for an extra splash of elegance to your home or office.
