Buying Green at Office Depot

Office Depot has a Buy Green section on their website to help consumers make a commitment to the environment. The company is sharing in the commitment by offering a complete line of environmentally beneficial products.~~

While most people think of green office supplies, they imagine recycled paper. Office Depot offers recycled paper products, but they also have a host of other products that promote positive environmental practices.

Consider refillable, remanufactured and biodegradable products, plus those that are energy efficient, non-toxic and made or powered by renewable energy.

Office Depot realizes the market for green office products is still relatively small when compared to the total industry, therefore they are introducing these types of products incrementally instead of trying to change their customers' purchasing habits overnight.

A number of Office Depot products have labels showing they have been verified as meeting environmental standards. Energy Star electronic products and Green Seal paper products.

The company believes in eco-labeling and plans to introduce more products that fall into specific eco categories in the future. However, Office Depot is selecting environmentally friendly products based on their positive attributes rather than a special label.

Office Depot realizes that customers view environmental issues in different ways. Some care more about lowering waste, others energy efficiency and those who are concerned about chemical use in the environment. Then there are the consumers who want to be assured that all the products they purchase are truly green.

The company's solution to various concerns is to simplify the selection process by identifying products with special environmental benefits. Products will also be identified showing the primary green benefit.

They will indicate recycled content, including port-consumer and total recycled content. In addition, the office supply giant will provide environmental education and tips for consumers.

The ongoing goal is to give customers a wide range of green options in all office product categories and assist them in choosing right supplies based on a balance between helping the environment and consumer issues such as price and quality.
