Please give us a short summary of your website?
Offers thousands of items of office furniture including a wide range of office desks, office chairs, office storage and tables. We also offer other furnishings such as classroom furniture and workstations. We produce many of the items we offer so sell at very low prices.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
We have been selling office furniture for more than 20 years and have had a web presence for several years now. We decided 2 years ago to start selling our furniture online as well as in our brochure.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
We first launched a site in 1999. Was quite modest and was more an advert for the company than a selling tool.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
The name of the site is the company name.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
We only offer items that meet our high standards for quality, which means you won't find throw-away type chairs listed for £15, or desks with thin tops and flimsy legs. We understand the strain furniture comes under in the workplace and only offer products we consider fit for purpose.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Just to keep everything running smoothly and to keep up our good service.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
We are beginning to see a return on the hours and money invested.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Not sure to be honest. I like it how it is ;)
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
We would be able to cope with a big increase in demand for our products.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Modifying the site so it was valid XHTML was a lot of fun. Ahem.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Probably writing the shop cart software and then integrating it with our payment provider.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
That would be telling...
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
There's a lot more maintenance involved than I expected. The site has to remain fresh and I'm always looking for new ways to breath new life into it.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
About 8 year I think. The site will stay even if it doesn't get the traffic and income we hope for. Having a web presence is pretty mandatory for a business in this day and age.
