Your name?

Ellen McKee

Your Location (city, etc)

Denver

Organize your personnel, procedures and paperwork - for less than $50 - with the Office Wizard office procedures manual template.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

To get the word out to businesses that they don't have to hire an expensive business consultant to launch their business; this very reasonably-priced program will guide them in organizing and building their business.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

First website was regarding a book I wrote called "Government Auctions/Sales Manual." The Manual was written up in several publications, including Kiplinger, Bottom Line and Reader's Digest. when the interview came out in Reader's Digest, figured it was time to get a website.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

I wanted to let people know exactly what they would find when they visited it.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

It is easier to use, perfect for small and growing businesses and cheaper than most programs.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To keep helping small business grow, keep it for a steady income while I pursue other interests (inventing and writing).

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I feel I created a very good program (Denver Business Journal does, too) so I am very happy with it. In terms of $$, always could use more.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Probably not because I like to keep a handle on it myself.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

When the DBJ wrote an article on the Office Wizard (listed on the website) they do not give out contact info. So people who read the article called the phone company. The phone company gave out incorrect information to everyone and no one could reach me. It was a very trying time, to say the least!

What has been your biggest challenge?

Keeping on task, finding more avenues to let people know about the program.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Forums.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

Initially I didn't want to have to run it myself, but I kept getting blindsided by web developers who couldn't deliver what they promised. So I have had to learn a lot about websites myself.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

It has been up for 2-3 years and it will be up indefinitely.

How will I help businesses who use my program?

If a business has a question on how to customize the program to their particular company or industry, please feel free to contact me. I would be more than happy to help. Ellen
