A small office is sometimes a benefit. there is less room to accumulate "things". To keep your small office a place for hard productive, work with less stress, and maintain a healthy atmosphere, try some or all of the following tips:
Use desk accessories to organize what is on your desk using the least amount of space. There are some really nice organizers that have several sections to store both flat papers and stand up sections for folders.
Buy a desk with a lap drawer. Keep you desk as empty as possible so that when you are trying to focus on your project there aren't pens, pencils, paperclips and thirty assorted documents cluttering your workspace.
Keep a nice green plant on your desk. It will be relaxing to you and will provide oxygen and filter your air to make you healthier.
Use all of your space wisely. Your printer can easily go on a printer shelf that rests under your desk instead of on your work surface.
Only have the items you absolutely NEED in your office. Purge your paperwork regularly instead of just sticking it in your filing cabinets and letting it grow mold for years. You don't NEED more filing cabinets, you simply need to keep them organized.
Use a rolling file to keep your active documents at the ready. You can roll the file under your desk or have it handy next to you.
Make sure you keep your small office clean. Keep the carpets vacuumed, the blinds or windows clean and your computer free of dust. Don't forget to pay attention to any partitions that are covered in fabric. The buildup of dust or allergens can make you feel bad.
