Physical appearance matters in workplace performance, says study

We all know that a worker has to be skillful and intelligent in order to advance in his/her career. That's already a given fact that should not be discussed in detail. A skillful, productive, and intelligent worker contributes to a good company performance and definitely deserves some form of reward.~~

But just how much impact does one's appearance contribute to this career success? According to this article that I just read, beauty matters just as much intelligence matters. The study primarily involved nearly 200 people between ages 25 to 75 who were interviewed about their current state of life and self-evaluation starting the year 1995.

According to the study, people who look better tend to be more confident with theirselves and with their performance, which leads to better financial and career-related rewards. There's no reason to worry, however, since the study also shows that intelligence still contributes more to financial rewards than mere beauty--just that beauty matters as well.

Is this any indication that you should worry about the way you look as well? You don't need this study just to answer that. Of course it does! A good physical appearance boosts anyone's self-esteem, resulting to better performance in the office. You don't have to be overly gorgeous, just enough to get satisfied about your appearance. Just ask yourself if you look good, and if you answer in the affirmative, then that would be enough. What others think may help a lot as well, but don't let this be the yardstick of what you should think about yourself.

But still remember that, before going out to get the latest cosmetic treatments, it would be wiser to educate yourself and improve your skills. It still has a better payoff. Do remember that.
